The Studio Ghibli Shop

Wandering around sunny TST after watching Man of Steel, Ry and I came across this amazing bus stop advertising the Studio Ghibli exhibition and its first overseas store, Donguri Republic!

As big fans of the films, we excitedly worked our way over to LCX at the Harbour City shopping centre!

Donguri Republic is a store that specializes in merchandise based on the leading Japanese animations studio, lead by world renowned directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata.

Studio Ghibli films are recognized worldwide, having won awards and critical acclaim.ย

From the 6th June to 31st July 2013, there was an exhibition of scenes from one of our favourite animes, My Neighbour Totoro, to celebrate its grand opening!

If you missed it, here are some photos that we took ๐Ÿ™‚

As itโ€™s such a small shop, do expect to queue!

Luckily we went on quite a quiet weekday, around a month after its grand opening, so we only had to queue for about 10 minutes before we could have a look around the shop.

Itโ€™s quite interesting, but unfortunately everything is really pricey! Ryan bought a screenshot of his favourite Studio Ghibli anime, Laputa: Castle in the Sky ๐Ÿ™‚

However itโ€™s totally worth it just to get a picture with the giant Totoros and the Cat Bus! ๐Ÿ˜€

Again, be prepared to queue as Asians love taking photos of anything cute, especially if theyโ€™re with their children.

Itโ€™s so awesome when pushy parents push their kids in front of you and it takes them about 5 minutes to look at the camera and do the peace sign.
